Sturt Pottery heads

Sturt Pottery
As a mini-project this month, I decided to make sure that all the Sturt Pottery heads had entries in Australian Potters’ Marks. I learnt some new things along the way. For instance, Paul Wynn brought his knowledge of salt-glazing to Sturt. While Don Court was not officially a head, he looked after the Sturt Pottery for two years after Ian McKay left. Campbell Hegan was a reformer who helped the Sturt Craft Centre through some difficult times. Simon Bowley is currently the pottery studio leader but, as we don’t yet have examples of his mark, I will leave his entry to another time. Illustrated: the pick and shovel mark used as the Sturt Pottery seal from 1953-1959.
