Rachel Roxburgh. Coffee pot. Base

In October, we added just 8 new topics – but with some good names, stories and finds. Members of the Identifying Australian Pottery Group uploaded examples of work by Wenty Carrick, Don James, Margaret Hollins and Janet Regan and we were able to convert these to asterisked topics. I had been meaning for some time to add an entry for Patrick Flinn using content provided by his daughter via my other Australian Pottery blog and this is now done. I was ultra busy for much of October on other tasks but managed to bring the biographies for Robert Langley and Kaye Pemberton over from my online catalogue between opening the gallery for our sixth season, writing Landcare grants, helping out at the Bemboka Annual Flower Show and spending every spare minute in the garden.  Serendipitously while browsing the Internet, I found that a mystery ‘RR’ coffee pot I had just listed in our online shop was by Rachel Roxburgh and spent a happy afternoon exploring her interesting life as painter, potter, architectural historian and pioneer of the National Trust.

  1. Hi Judith

Rachel and I were acquainted from my time at David Jones Gallery and Bonython Gallery. I have a number of pieces with similar signature, and the date from the 1960s and 70s. Handsome and functional, a bit like the lady herself. Tireless
